If an organization (or part of an organization) is not sure whether moving to a more agile way of working would be a proper step to take, some form of assessment is recommended.

Such an assessment would include:

  1. discussion with the organization's management regarding their current process,
  2. identification of what management feels are benefits they wish to receive from a more agile approach,
  3. planning for how a transformation might take place, and
  4. possibly, some initial training and initial pilot team efforts.

The length and depth of such analysis will, as expected, depend a great deal on the size of the organization, the physical distribution of team members, and management's ability to engage in the organization's transformation.

More extensive transformation and coaching engagements would be a natural follow-up to such analysis should the organization feel an agile approach would bring them increased value.
